How to choose a long-range light

• Candela, not lumens. Throw is set by beam intensity. A tight 1,000-lumen thrower will reach further than a 3,000-lumen floodlight.
• Red and green modes. Less likely to spook game than white light, and they preserve your own dark adaptation.
• Runtime and spare cells. High-intensity output drains cells fast. Removable-battery models let you carry spares.

Does a brighter light always throw further?

No. Reflector depth and emitter size matter more. A large, deep reflector concentrates light into a tight beam, which is what produces distance.

Should I use white, red or green for hunting?

White for identification and recovery, red to preserve your night vision on the walk in, green where local rules and quarry make it appropriate. Always check your state hunting regulations on artificial light before use.
