Klarus FlatTac X1 Flat EDC Tactical Flashlight – 4200 Lumens

To many times with flashlights the videos over play the brightness. Not this time, this is BRIGHT and the strobe effect is awesome. It is a bit tricky to learn how to lock and unlock the light at first. Once you get it down it's nice. It is now apart of my EDC. It has 5 brightness levels, first is moon light, low, medium, medium high & high. It's great and the price point matches the quality.

Even at the $80 price point, this flashlight is fantastic. It's sleek and compact, feature rich, highly durable, and the advertised brightness is actually accurate which is a breath of fresh air online. I have a Streamlight with similar brightness, but this one is $40 cheaper and has way more features. The readout is bright and easy to read. My only nitpick is that the housing is a smooth aluminum and is a bit slippery. In hindsight, I mightve gotten the version with the knuckle ring grip, but I wanted a more compact format factor for easy edc. I might actually shell out and buy another. Definitely recommend.

I got this Klarus FlatTac X1K flashlight because I wanted a good flashlight for emergencies and for daily use in general. This thing is maybe a little bit extra. I am not a tactical flashlight collector like I have seen on Reddit. Some of these guys have hundreds of them. This one seems cool, and fairly unique. Klarus sells the other FlatTac as a rail mounted flashlight, and this one is basically that but with a ring grip on it, and the ring has a ceramic bead in it for emergency window breaking, same with reinforced parts of the front around the light. I am not a hundred percent sure how you are supposed to hold it, but I think the buttons are thumb actuated.

The user interface takes some getting used to, and it’s not explained very clearly on the instruction card, so you may accidentally give yourself a full 2200 lumens or the full flash of the ultra bright beam if you’re not careful. I think the bright beam is enough to use for self defense situations maybe even. I am not sure if you can use other brightnesses above the low 15 lumen setting while the red button is locked out. I think it is possible to do but I haven’t figured it out. Also the button must be depressed the whole time, as far as I can tell you can’t just click it on like an old school mag lite. This limits the utility a lot for me. I think if I was going into backcountry I might take this for the SOS beacon feature because I am guessing it can be seen from a long way out because it’s searingly bright.

I am not sure it is really great for EDC even though it is compact, unless you see yourself needing it a lot for potential self defense or you need temporary light (for as long as your thumb can hold the button down anyway) often.

The brightest setting makes the body of the flashlight super hot, so don’t grip it down by the bulb. I would go as far as to say it might be possible to scald yourself on it. Outside of a few situations I don’t think most people need a light this bright, but if you need it, it’s really good to have. This is the kind of technology that really has come a long way recently. The screen reminds me of the interface of a box mod, and I am guessing they share some tech. Innovation takes mysterious forms, but this is a quite innovative flashlight from my relatively naive perspective.

Turbo mode at the claimed 4200 lumens is very bright and a decently wide, even flood, not just a small spot. The second switch actually makes it quite a bit easier to use than trying to memorize patterns just with one switch. The red button is responsible for lock/unlock (3 clicks), turbo mode (hold), and strobe (click). The black button serves as a reading light (hold) and cycles through the main light modes (click) with off being long click. It does take a little bit of memorization, but I find the control scheme fairly well laid out and reasonable. The small screen also shows you the mode as a reminder of what state it's in. I also really like that they made the 15 lumen reading light usable even when it's locked.

Reading light responds on a 1 second cycle, so works well as a signal light as well. The long press for off also responds extremely quickly, a small fraction of a second.

The finger loop is large, slightly over an inch, so should be compatible with pretty much any glove. Small ceramic beads are embedded on the tip of the finger loop and each of the four corners on the front of the light for striking. The finger loop and clip are both removable via screws. The only external feature I wish it had was a lanyard attachment.

Super compact and extremely bright. I have it in my jeep for camping trips. I really like the ring attached to it, it makes the hold feel very natural!

This flashlight is amazing!

Make sure you 3-click the aux switch to unlock the flashlight before and after using it. I messed around for a few minutes trying to unlock it before I saw that on the bottom of the UI card.

This thing is slim, lightweight, and super bright. When it’s full bright on the main switch, you can give it a little bit more using the aux switch to take it up to 4200 lumens (per the display, I don’t have a way to actually measure it). When it’s on the top few brightness level, if it’s too close to something it gives you a warning.

It fits nicely in my pocket and hand. The finger loop could be useful in a self defense situation and keeps the flashlight right wear I need it in my hand. The strobe function of the aux switch is neat and I can see how it would defiantly disorient someone looking into it.

I do construction inspections and it works great to light up whole areas and even point something out in bright areas as well.

The price is a little on the high side, but the construction, functionality, and usefulness set this apart.

I like the rectangular shape of this light though I am not sure that I like the ring. Placing the finger in the ring does position my thumb over the power button, so that part is fine. Beyond that the hold and aim of the light feels a little awkward. Could be I'll get used to it over time. At the highest setting the light is super bright. The brightness can be adjusted by quick taps on the power button. An LCD advises you of what lumen setting you are on as well as battery level. Long press to power off and when powering back on the lumen setting you had at power off is restored provided you short press the power button. If you long press it, the light reverts back to the low setting. In addition to controlling the strobe/SOS function, pressing and holding the red button will illuminate the light at the last lumen setting and then go off when button is released. That's a nice feature for scanning things. Charging is with a standard USB-C connector, not a custom adapter so that's nice as well.

Incredibly bright flashlight. I got the one with the attached finger loop and I was surprised at how it becomes a natural grab point. Bonus for not dropping it as it is “attached” to your finger. It is made of aluminum which gives it some heft and weight but also adds to its ruggedness. The two tail switches become fairly intuitive once you get used to what they do. I really like that it remembers your last power setting and you don’t have to run through the entire series of settings to get back to where you want it which has been an annoyance with other lights. Keep your hands off the lens at its brightest setting though, as it will get pretty hot fairly quickly.

A fantastic light in the latest flat full featured EDC form factor. The light is of fine build quality and performs flawlessly in all modes.This seems to be the form factor EDC lights are moving towards and with performance like this light has I am all for moving that direction. The light feels good in hand and carries great for me in pocket or bag!

This flashlight is awesome! It’s super bright, and very easy to use. The machining is nice, and it feels great in the hand. There’s ceramic balls in the tip of the flashlight and one of the finger grip which could be used as a glass breaker, and I really like the screen that shows you which mode you’re in, and current state of charge.

It charges via USB-C, and the finger grip looks to be easily removable with a pair of screws, which holds it very securely. The slim design of this flashlight makes it easy to carry and its become one that I carry around all the time.

The Klarus FlatTac X1 is one seriously impressive flashlight. Don’t let the slim, compact design fool you—this thing packs a punch with 4200 lumens. It lights up my whole yard like it's daylight, and that’s not an exaggeration.

When I got this, I didn't know that a tactical flashlight is designed for self-defense. As a simple flashlight, this thing excels because it is incredibly bright with a wide, long throw. Battery life varies depending on the brightness setting but in general is satisfyingly long. Recharging the 2000mAh battery takes between 1 and 2 hours and there is a cool OLED display to tell you the current settings and battery level. At its highest brightness settings, the device produces a great deal of heat and includes a sensor to detect if there are obstructions close enough to the LEDs to risk overheating.

There are several different modes for lighting, including multiple brightness settings and different patterns such as strobe and an SOS pattern. You can refer to the included User Interface card to see how to activate these.

The form factor is easy to pocket and if you do need to use it for defense, the strobe setting would be disorienting while the sharp points on the flashlight would be useful for striking.

I really like this tactical flashlight. It’s slim, compact, and the flat design makes it easy to carry in your pocket or clip onto a bag. The brightness is impressive, 4200 lumens at its highest setting and the red SOS button is easy to press in emergencies. What keeps it from being perfect is the main control button. It’s a single-button system where you press in and up to brighten, down to dim, and center to turn it off. The problem is it’s hard to hit the center precisely, so I often end up changing the brightness by mistake. It’s frustrating when you just want to turn it off and keep your previous setting. If they had added a third button, it would’ve been way more user-friendly. That said, everything else about it is solid, it’s rechargeable via USB-C, and definitely powerful. You can rinse it off and use it in the rain but do not submerge it. It’s water resistant not completely waterproof. Just wish they had done a better job with that button.

My husband collects flashlights the way some folks collect baseball cards. He has just about every kind of flashlight you can imagine. This is a good flashlight for when we are camping and need to illuminate the pitch-dark night. At first we weren't sure it worked right, because we could get it to the 15 lumen stage but not beyond. Turns out it was just nominally charged, so after a full charge it performed all of its functions. Although the ad claims that its use is intuitive, we found it to be a little tricky to figure out. The instructions it comes with are not much help, unfortuately. But once we got the hang of it we think this is a pretty nifty flashlight--although at $89.99, maybe not quite worth the hefty price tag.

This flat design flashlight is amazing and better than the description. It is lightweight and has an amazing fingering style grip which allows easy deployment and good grip in your hand has about five different brightness levels and a memory function easy to turn on by using your thumb and there are Multiple ways to turn on if you hold the red button it engages the turbo mode while you’re holding it, this is a very, very bright floodlight style flashlight perfect size just fit in your pocket and clips in great charges using type C power and charges fairly quick and hold the charge pretty long Definitely love this flashlight. It is a powerhouse. Has strobe and SOS mode as well super durable and lightweight.

Note: I originally rated this at 3 stars, but have updated it to 2 stars after having it melt a hole in my dress pants despite having a sensor on the face of the light that is supposed to reduce the power when it's close to objects.

This light has a good form factor, but the user interface is not intuitive and the brightest 4200 lumen setting only lasts for 15 seconds before dropping down to 200 lumens. The 2200 lumen setting lasts a good bit longer.

I really like that the light is easier to fit in your pocket than a round flashlight. The form factor is good.

The interface is hard to use. Even with the flowchart that comes with the light, it's difficult to use and not very intuitive. There are also minor annoyances like the lock function still allowing the flashlight to turn on at the lowest setting. If you're trying to pack the light in a bag or a pocket in a place where you cannot have the light turn on, this doesn't work. As the battery is internal, you can't even remove the battery to totally lock it out.

The light sensor on the front is a really good idea. It turns the light down if it detects an object close to the front of the flashlight. This is great if you don't want to be blinded or potentially start a fire. Unfortunately, this doesn't work properly. During testing, I put the flashlight in the pocket of a pair of dress pants. Without my realizing, the light turned on as I was walking and melted a hole in my pants. This is a big problem in a light meant to be carried.

The highest power mode only lasts for 15 seconds before turning the brightness down to 200 lumens. You can turn it on again, but subsequent times it lasts for 10 seconds and then only a few seconds. This makes sense because that's a lot of power output in a small device without great cooling, but it's not as functional as a light with better cooling.

If the UI was easier to operate, the lockout mode actually locked everything out, and the front power-reduction sensor kept this from being a burn hazard, then this would be a 4 star light. If all of those things were the case and it was able to stay on turbo for longer, it'd be a 5 star product. After that and the hole melted in my pants, I will not be carrying this light.

I have extensive experience with the "N" core brand, and imo the interface on this model is far superior.

The tactical ring is attached with two screws but they are very difficult to remove, if that's what you want to do.

The powermode is not working

This thing is super bright and lights up pretty much the whole area that you're lighting. Strobe lighting works perfectly. Great for tactical use and the almost circular thumb section makes holding it quite comfortable. Definitely a powerhouse light!

I did not find this light to be that comfortable to hold. In fact, I found it inconvenient to hold using the finger hole. I am sure other reviewers (users) do not feel the same. It was confusing to me on how the different light modes were set initially. It does shine brightly when you get to the "high beam" mode. Unfortunately, this light is not for me.

The menu chart is something to behold, haha. Once you get it set to memory, it isn't so bad. I supposed they had to limit the number and types of switches to make waterproofing a little easier to achieve. That said, it's really bright and everything works as it should.

I have used this for hunting, camping and around the house. With thr multiple light modes, you can pick a brightness level for what you need tonuse it for. Small and compact, easily fits in pockets. Battery life is great as well, a lot of use in-between charges.

It's absolutely insane how bright this little guy is. And you may be wondering if it's worth the price...I'm still kind of wondering that myself. The thing is, it's 'tactical', so I think that levies a higher price. But, once you receive it, you start to understand. The box and everything in it is very professional. And once you have it in your hand, you get it. This thing is STOUT. It's got weight, but it's not heavy. You could definitely break glass with it. And once you figure out how to unlock it and go through the light settings...woo boy howdy is this little guy BRIGHT! You've got settings that range from 'good enough if it's dark enough' to 'oh god my eyes'...which I'm supposing would help if you're in a tactical situation, especially when you activate strobe.

I will say, this is one heck of a flashlight. And I believe it's worth the price.
